Is Your home at risk of damp or mould problems in Manchester?

It’s worth checking whether your home is at risk from poorly installed cavity wall insulation by using the checklist below. Damp and mould could occur in properties because of cavity-wall insulation if there is a combination of these factors:

This is a view from the outside of a house with damp cavity wall insulation. You can see that the insulation itself is soaking wet. This will cause damp and mould issues inside the walls and needs to be removed.

This is the inside of a property that had damp cavity wall insulation. As you can see over time, it has bridged through to the inner brick of the house and damaged all the plaster work. It had to be removed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Cavity Wall Insulation Services

Cavity wall insulation is good in properties where there is low to medium exposure from the elements. There are some conditions that means cavity wall and loft insulation is not always suitable. Having cavity wall and loft insulation installed when it isn’t suitable for the property can cause a range of issues, such as damp or structural damage. We always carry out an extensive assessment before recommending the right service to you.
Your walls may feel damp to the touch. There may be signs of black mold and condensation on internal walls, and you may be able to smell mould in the room. When standard insulation becomes wet, they lose their thermal performance benefit, and you may notice that your home is losing more heat and your bills are increasing in cost.

If your homes insulation has been poorly fitted, or is not suitable for your property, you may encounter problems with damp and mould, leading to possible damage to the external brickwork. Living in a cold, damp environment can also increase health problems such as: influenza, strokes, and heart disease.

Following a thorough assessment of your property, including using thermal imagery surveys, we use a variety of professional processes to extract the cavity wall insulation. Using our own uniquely designed insulation removal vacuum, the methods we use are safe, and will cause no damage to the structural integrity of your property.

We advise that all ports from the outer brick to the inside wall be sealed. This includes boiler flues, air vents, gaps around the pipe work where they enter the property from the outside i.e waste pipes, water pipes, etc. We aim to cause minimal disruption but due to the power of the compressed air some of the insulation/dust debris may find its way into the property.

The risk of further damp, condensation, mould, and further issues is almost immediately removed when the cavity wall insulation is extracted, and the property is cleaned and aired.
The price is usually based on a square meter basis. This is dependent on which cavity wall insulation type is being removed, along with the construction type of the property.
